Descubridores

The Descubridoes was so cool to see because how how huge it is and learn about the history tied to it.  The Descubriodes is known as the Monument of the Discoveries.  The stature of people was so big and I like how Henry the navigator was the highest figure and was place in the center of the structure. All the figure craved in the structure were important figure in Portugal for discoveries of the world.  One thing I notice about the figure was that most of them have an object attach to them that represent what they did for Portugal. Henry has a sail boat representing discovering new places for Portugal, poets have a piece of paper, knights have a sword or shield, and kings have a crown. I like how these monument is dedicated for all the important historical people in Portugal.

I believe the Descubridoes is important historically to Lisbon by being a monument to all the important figure in Portugal history.  "The monument was reconstructed in 1960s to mark the death of Henry the Navigator which happen 500s year ago on that year" (Monument to the Discoveries). The monument is filled with figures from Portugal that explores over sea to expanded their world. It dedicated the monument to 32 people all having different focus on explaining the world (that could be missionaries, artists, colonizer, and navigators). I like have it respect the many ways people have travel the world and shows the important of expanding is. This is a monument to Portugal have far they have come along.

I think Descubridores contribute to Lisbon status as a cultural capital by being a monument dedicated to the important people in Portugal who basically discover the world in Portugal eyes. When people see this monument, they are reminded of the many discoveries Portugal made. It is to mark their history and to give thanks to the people who did discover the world.  This monument also helps strengthen Portugal for being well rounded in cultural for exploring all over the world, learning about different cultures. This monument also brings attraction to Portugal from tourist which helps strengthen status as a cultural capital from being popular to tourist.
