day 9 - Ghent and Bruges (personal post)

Today I got to go to Ghent and Bruges. In Ghent, I got to see the Ghent altarpiece. That painting was so lovely to look at. I got to walk around the city and admire the castle. I also got a hot chocolate from the best coffee shop there (not my words).
After Ghent, I took a train to Bruges. Let me tell you that Bruges is my favorite town. The city is so cute to walk around. It's a medieval town and looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. I loved walking around the city. I got to see the Madonna statue which was cool. I also got some mint chocolates which was delicious.

    Beautiful pictures! I absolutely love Bruges! It is such a fairytale city and it smells so divine! Wish i was there

When I entered the Palais Garnier, the first I noticed was the lighting of the place. The grand staircase is lit up by chandelier of bright light and is supported by a small square glass ceiling. The lighting makes the place seem magically and made the painting and sculptures around it stand out. In the grand foyer, the gold on the walls and ceiling helped make the painting stand out. I noticed all the painting are at the top of the walls or on the ceiling and columns/structure of the walls helped directed  I believe that the Palais Garnier is important culturally because it was built of the middle-class of Paris. Napoleon could see that the middle class was riding in status and he had to represent them. Back then Palais were for the nobility so Napoleon wanted to make a Palais for the middle class so they had a place to flaunt their riches. Simone de Beauvoir

  One women that made a difference in Paris is Simone de Beauvoir. Simone is a french writer and philosopher. She is most known for writing The Second Sex which brought awareness of the status of women and is also apart of the French feminist movement. She broke a lot of social rules in her day by not getting married and being critical of women rights so she can prove her point that women are overlooked in society. She brought awareness to women and fought for women to be seen. Even though I don't agree to her lifestyle, I think she is an amazing person. I like how she wasn't afraid to call people out. I also like how honest and raw her thoughts and action are. She wrote how thing actually are and didn't try to sugarcoats things. She an amazing example that sometimes you have to broke social rule to get your point across. Her contribution to being a feminist changed how society should view women.
