Stockholm art: Vasa ship

On Thursday, I got to see and learn about the Vasa ship. This ship was so beautiful and I could only image how power this warship could be if it didn't sink. The museum where this ship is in had to be built around the ship. In the museum, each level there are different information about the ship. The bottom level is about the passengers. The middle has a film where you learn about some information about the boat. The top floor holds information about the layout of the ship. Each level you see a different view of the ship and can really admire the structure of the ship.

The Vasa ship is important to Stockholm because it holds a lot of information about Stockholm naval power back in the 17th century. It's living proof of what ships would look like back then and how naval power was very important to a country. It is also interesting how quickly this ship sunk from the shore and how it is still preserve so well for being sunk in the water for about 300 years. The Vasa was meant to be this powerful navy ship and Stockholm put so much time into it.  The King wanted to ship to have a lot of power which was the reason for it sinking (too heavy).

I think the Vasa ship contribute to Stockholm status as a cultural capital by showing the the military, or in this case navy, is very important to a city. Having military power is a way to show to other countries not to mess with them. It also makes the citizen feel more safe and know that their country will protect them. It brings this security to city. Also having a strong military can bring attention the city and make people move there so that they feel safe too. The Vasa ship also bring history to Stockholm and help people have a better sense on how their navy power was back in the 17th century.
